Two members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force have appeared in court on charges arising from separate incidents in Hanover and Kingston.
Constables Christonajae Ellis and Abian Wilson were charged following investigations by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and rulings from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Ellis faces a charge of unlawful wounding stemming from an incident in Flint River, Hanover, on July 16, 2024. The complainant alleges that Ellis injured his face with a firearm, causing a wound that required stitches. The constable maintains that he acted in self-defence.
Ellis appeared before the Hanover Parish Court on Tuesday. Both parties were referred for restorative justice mediation, and the matter is scheduled to return on December 8.
Meanwhile, Wilson appeared before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday, charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
His charge relates to an incident in Duhaney Park on December 22, 2024. The complainant and eyewitnesses allege that Wilson pushed the woman, causing her to fall, lose consciousness and sustain injuries. Wilson denies using force against her.
Both parties were referred for mediation. The matter returns to court on February 4, 2027.
