ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Police in Portmore have laid multiple charges against two men accused of carrying out an armed robbery that resulted in the theft of a motor vehicle in the municipality last December.
The accused are 21-year-old construction worker Roshawn Sawyers, also known as “Buddo Chop”, and 25-year-old Kamal Gayle, otherwise called “Fat Boy”. Both men are residents of Southboro, Portmore. They have been charged with robbery with aggravation, possession of a prohibited weapon, using a firearm to commit a felony, and conspiracy. Court dates are now being arranged.
According to investigators, the incident took place around 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 8, 2025. The men allegedly confronted a motorist and demanded his vehicle and cash. When the victim reportedly resisted, he was struck with a firearm, sustaining bruises and swelling.
The complainant managed to flee the area and later reported the matter to the police. Officers returned with him to the scene, where it was confirmed that his Toyota Corolla had been stolen.
Police launched an investigation, leading to the recovery of the vehicle and the arrest of Sawyers and Gayle during a targeted operation in the community. The charges were formally laid on Friday, January 2, following their identification in an identification parade.
