ST JAMES, Jamaica — Police in St James are continuing their search for wanted persons following the seizure of two high-powered firearms and ammunition in Green Pond on Thursday.
The weapons, identified as an AR-15 rifle and a PA-15 multi rifle, were seized during an operation in the community.
An M15 magazine, a high-capacity multi-feed pan magazine and 30 rounds of ammunition were also recovered.
A video posted on the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s social media pages showed the weapons and other items seized.
The operation comes amid an increase in shootings across the St James Police Division.
Police data show that 43 shooting incidents were recorded between January 1 and August 29, compared with 39 during the corresponding period last year.
Senior Superintendent Eron Samuels, who commands the St James Division, says the police will continue their efforts to secure the division and apprehend wanted persons.
The search for those responsible for the illegal possession of the firearms remains ongoing.
