Usher Defends Diddy Amid Prison Drama, Says His Legacy Shouldn’t Be Erased

International recording star Usher has publicly expressed support for Sean Combs, emphasizing that the hip-hop mogul’s musical contributions should not be overshadowed by his legal troubles.

During a recent interview with Forbes, Usher addressed Combs’ situation while reflecting on the broader issue of how public figures are judged. Combs, widely known as Diddy, is currently serving a prison sentence exceeding four years following his 2025 conviction on two counts related to transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution.

Speaking with journalist Jabari Young, Usher suggested that some individuals face scrutiny that can diminish recognition of their achievements. He noted that, based on his personal experiences, he has no negative remarks about Combs and believes the public perception may not fully align with the person he knew.

While acknowledging that no individual is without flaws, Usher underscored the importance of recognizing Diddy’s long-standing influence and accomplishments within the music industry. He indicated that these contributions should remain a significant part of how Combs is remembered.

In response, Combs, through his spokesperson Juda Engelmayer, expressed appreciation for Usher’s comments, stating that the respect between the two artists is mutual.

The relationship between Usher and Diddy dates back to the early stages of Usher’s career. The singer met Combs as a teenager and later lived with him in 1994. Combs also played a key role in Usher’s debut album as an executive producer.

Meanwhile, Combs is actively pursuing an appeal against the sentence handed down in October 2025.
