Three Colombians Charged After $1.7 Billion Cocaine Bust Off St Elizabeth Coast

Three men from Colombia are now facing multiple drug-related charges following what authorities have described as the largest single cocaine seizure in Jamaica’s history, with an estimated street value of $1.7 billion.

The accused have been identified as 39-year-old Lucio Henry of San Andres, 34-year-old Arith Lopez of Barranquilla, and 22-year-old Klein Sinclair of Providence. They have been charged with possession, dealing, trafficking, and importation of cocaine, along with conspiracy to traffic and illegal entry into the island.

Investigators from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigations Division (FNID) reported that the charges stem from an early morning operation carried out on March 21 off the coast of Alligator Pond in St Elizabeth. At approximately 4:10 a.m., members of the Jamaica Defence Force intercepted a fishing vessel operating offshore.

The three men were found aboard the vessel, which was carrying 99 knitted bags later determined to contain cocaine. The boat and its cargo were subsequently escorted to the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard base in Port Royal, where FNID personnel took control of the investigation.

Authorities revealed that the shipment comprised more than 2,400 individual packages, weighing in excess of 6,000 pounds.

Superintendent Patrae Rowe, head of the FNID, noted that the seizure highlights the effectiveness of coordinated efforts among law enforcement agencies. She emphasized that strengthened operational planning and collaboration continue to play a critical role in disrupting narcotics trafficking.

The men were formally charged on March 31 after being interviewed with legal representation and the assistance of an interpreter. They are expected to appear before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on April 7.
