Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated following a stern warning from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding potential military action.
In a post shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump indicated that discussions with Iran are ongoing and described them as “serious.” However, he cautioned that failure to quickly secure a ceasefire agreement could result in significant strikes on key Iranian facilities that have so far been deliberately avoided.
Among the possible targets, Trump suggested, are critical energy assets and infrastructure, including desalination plants that play a vital role in providing potable water.
Iran has pushed back against the proposals, with a foreign ministry spokesperson characterizing the U.S. terms for ending the conflict as “excessive and unreasonable.”
Amid the heightened rhetoric, Iran reportedly carried out attacks on a major water and electricity facility in Kuwait, as well as an oil refinery in Israel.
Iranian officials have also issued threats of further escalation, including the possibility of launching a ground offensive into Gulf Arab states and deploying mines in the Persian Gulf should American forces enter Iranian territory.
