St Andrew, Jamaica — An off-duty member of the Jamaica Defence Force was shot and killed Tuesday night after a vehicle malfunction along La Waltham Park Road.
Reports indicate that the soldier was traveling with an off-duty police officer when their vehicle developed mechanical trouble. Both men reportedly stopped to check the issue when explosions consistent with gunfire were heard in the area.
During the incident, the soldier was struck by bullets. He was later transported to hospital, where medical personnel confirmed his death.
Law enforcement officers assigned to the St Andrew South Division secured the location and carried out scene processing as part of an active investigation into the fatal shooting. No further details have been released.
