Police Constable, Civilian Held After Ammunition Seizures in Hanover and Westmoreland Operations

A serving police constable and another man are now in custody following coordinated security operations in Hanover and Westmoreland that resulted in the seizure of dozens of rounds of ammunition and other items.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that the constable is assigned to the Westmoreland Division. Both suspects were arrested on Friday during targeted raids conducted across multiple locations.

The operations were carried out by the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Branch (CTOC) with support from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID). Investigators reported that a total of 85 assorted rounds of ammunition were recovered, along with a motor vehicle, several mobile phones, and cash.

During one targeted operation in Hanover aimed at disrupting the illegal ammunition trade, two men were taken into custody. A subsequent search of a vehicle they occupied led to the discovery of a quantity of ammunition, according to police reports.

Follow-up, intelligence-driven searches later extended into Westmoreland, where additional ammunition was reportedly found at a residence.

The men, identified as a 31-year-old constable and a 39-year-old civilian, are being held on reasonable suspicion of breaching the Firearms (Prohibition, Restriction and Regulation) Act, 2022. Investigations are ongoing.

Police say all items recovered during the operations have been secured and transferred to the appropriate investigative units for detailed examination. The constabulary reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on criminal conduct within its ranks and stated that any member found violating the law will be addressed through firm and transparent action.
