FLORIDA, United States — A 32-year-old Jamaican man, identified as Ragar Allen, has been taken into custody in Florida and is now facing multiple serious charges, including murder.
Allen was apprehended on March 31 during a joint operation involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Florida Highway Patrol. Authorities say he is linked to the Craig Town Gang and was wanted in Jamaica for a homicide.
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), intelligence received on March 27 from its Jamaica-based attaché indicated that Allen had unlawfully re-entered the United States and was being sought by Jamaican authorities.
Law enforcement officials later located Allen and attempted a targeted vehicle stop. However, DHS reported that he tried to evade capture by fleeing in his vehicle in a dangerous manner.
Video footage released by ICE shows that during the attempted escape, Allen dragged a trooper from the Florida Highway Patrol into a fence. The officer was subsequently hospitalised with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Authorities also disclosed that at the time of his arrest, Allen was found in possession of illegal drugs and a stolen firearm.
Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis praised the joint effort, noting that the suspect’s capture removed a dangerous individual from the streets. She further highlighted the risks faced by officers, citing a sharp rise in assaults and vehicle-related attacks against law enforcement personnel.
DHS confirmed that prosecutors are pursuing multiple felony charges against Allen, including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding police, illegal possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen weapon, and unlawful re-entry after deportation.
Immigration authorities have placed a detainer on Allen with Duval County officials, meaning he will be transferred to ICE custody upon the conclusion of his criminal proceedings.
Records show that Allen was previously detained on December 12, 2021, near San Ysidro, California, after attempting to enter the United States illegally. He was later issued a removal order on February 28, 2022, and deported on April 28, 2022. Authorities believe he re-entered the country again at an unknown time and location.
