A judge in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court has approved a request from the police to keep popular content creator Jhaedee Richards in custody as investigations continue into a shooting incident at the Big Wall party on Sunday.
Richards, who is represented by attorney-at-law Isat Buchanan, is expected to undergo additional questioning by investigators.
Under Jamaican law, the police are permitted to detain an individual for up to 48 hours without laying charges. However, they may apply to the court for an extension if more time is needed. Similarly, a detainee can seek a court order through legal representation to be either formally charged or released.
To date, no charges have been filed against Richards, as authorities indicate that their probe remains active.
The incident unfolded at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in St Andrew during the Big Wall event, where three individuals were shot.
Reports from the Jamaica Constabulary Force state that around 9:30 p.m., a dispute between patrons escalated into a physical confrontation, which then led to gunfire being exchanged between two men.
Following the shooting, three persons were found with gunshot wounds. Police confirmed that two of the injured were directly involved in the altercation. All were transported to hospital, where one was treated and later released into police custody, while the others remain admitted.
Investigators also confirmed that two firearms were seized in connection with the incident.
Another individual has since been taken into custody, though his identity is being withheld at this time.
The investigation is being led by the Half-Way Tree Criminal Investigation Branch as authorities continue their efforts to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.
