LONDON, England — American R&B singer Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to a charge of grievous bodily harm with intent stemming from an alleged nightclub assault in London two years ago.
Brown, 35, appeared at Southwark Crown Court in central London on Friday morning. The charge relates to a 2023 incident that allegedly took place at a nightclub in the capital, according to London’s Metropolitan Police.
The artist, who was arrested in Manchester last month, was released on bail after posting a £5 million security fee. Despite the legal trouble, Brown has continued with his UK tour, performing as recently as Thursday night in Cardiff, Wales.
The singer’s legal history includes a highly publicized 2009 felony assault case involving pop star Rihanna, for which he served jail time and completed a lengthy probation period ending in 2015.
Brown’s latest charge is a serious criminal offense under UK law, and the case has now moved into the pre-trial phase. His legal team has not issued an official statement following the plea.
