A man was shot and killed while 18 other persons were taken into custody during a police operation in the Bottom River area along August Town Road, St Andrew, on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as 26 year old Deandre Williams, otherwise called Street Life, of Nanny Boulevard, Nannyville, Kingston 3.
Reports indicate that about 5:00 am, a large contingent of police personnel conducted an operation in the area during which Williams was accosted. This reportedly led to a confrontation in which he was fatally shot.
During the operation, police said an illegal firearm was seized. The weapon was identified as a 9mm Taurus pistol fitted with a magazine containing 10 rounds of ammunition. In addition, 18 men believed to be aligned with the African Gardens Vietnam Gang were apprehended and taken into custody.
Police further reported that Williams was wanted in connection with the murder of 39 year old Charles “Tallman” Walford, a mason of Mandela Terrace, Kingston 11, who was shot and killed on East Road, Kingston 11, on Friday, August 22, 2025.
Investigators also indicated that Williams previously operated as a member of the Ashanti Gang and the Dust City Gang. He was also described as a top tier member of the Night Time Brawling Group and the African Gardens Vietnam Gang.
Additionally, police said Williams was considered a person of interest in several murders and shootings across the St Andrew Central, North, South, and Kingston Eastern divisions.
Williams was deported from Canada on June 24, 2024, after serving four years in prison for forcible confinement, assault, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
