SOUTH CAROLINA, United States — A 34-year-old mother has been charged with murder months after her 10-month-old daughter died from drug toxicity in Anderson, South Carolina.
Tynisha Lashae Jones was charged with murder/homicide by child abuse following an investigation into the December 2025 death of her daughter, Talayah.
Emergency crews responded to a home on Howland Drive on December 12 after receiving a 911 call about an unresponsive infant.
Responders treated Talayah at the scene before transporting her to AnMed Medical Center, where she later died despite efforts to save her.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office subsequently launched an investigation, interviewing Jones and obtaining a search warrant for the family’s home. Samples were also collected and submitted for laboratory testing.
According to authorities, subsequent testing detected a high level of morphine in the infant’s blood.
The coroner determined that Talayah died from combined drug toxicity involving morphine and hydromorphone and classified her death as a homicide.
Investigators allege that evidence gathered during the months-long probe, including laboratory findings and medical records, indicated that Jones administered the drugs to her daughter.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed how the drugs were allegedly administered or the circumstances leading up to the child becoming unresponsive.
Jones was taken into custody and remains at the Anderson County Detention Center after being denied bond.
The case remains before the courts.
