KINGSTON, Jamaica — The ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has announced the cancellation of its annual conference in the wake of Hurricane Melissa, prioritising national recovery efforts.
JLP Communication Taskforce Chairman Abka Fitz-Henley said the decision ensures that the party’s resources and energies remain devoted to assisting Jamaicans affected by the storm.
The Standing Committee made the call on November 18, noting that the conference, traditionally held in late November, will not proceed this year.
The matter is set to be referred to the party’s Central Executive, which is scheduled to meet on December 7.
The move underscores the party’s commitment to putting people first as the country continues its recovery from Hurricane Melissa’s devastation.
