KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man described by police as a major person of interest in multiple serious crimes was fatally shot during a police operation in Bayshore Park on Friday.
Dead is 31-year-old Samtone Flynch, otherwise called “Jakes” and “Sparta Darkness,” of Church Street in Baileys Vale, St Mary.
Police reported that an intelligence-driven operation was launched in the community behind the Harbour View Mini Stadium to apprehend Flynch, who investigators said was wanted in connection with several murders, shootings and robberies spanning the St Mary and St Ann police divisions.
According to law enforcement, officers armed with a search warrant moved to enter a premises during the operation when Flynch allegedly pointed a firearm at them. Police said officers responded with gunfire, hitting the suspect.
Flynch was taken to Kingston Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators said a firearm was recovered at the scene.
Authorities said Flynch was being sought in connection with the August 26, 2025 murder of Arlene Callum in Ocho Rios, St Ann. Police also named him as a person of interest in the 2014 killing of Elizabeth Lindo in Brimmer Hall, Baileys Vale.
Police further stated that Flynch had previous charges, including rape, buggery and other sexual offences, and had also been convicted in a lottery scamming matter.
Investigators also alleged that he had links to the Bayshore Park Gang and had been using the community as a hideout.
The incident remains under investigation.
