KINGSTON, Jamaica – Orlando Grant, a reputed gang leader also known as ‘Rufus’ or ‘Glasses Man’, has been formally charged after being apprehended on a school compound on Easter Monday with a modified Glock-19 pistol and 50 rounds of ammunition.
The 33-year-old, who hails from a Grants Pen, Kingston 8 address, is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition. His arrest follows years of efforts by security forces to capture him.
Grant was nabbed around 8:10 p.m. during a police operation at a school in the Mannings Hill district. Officers say he was carrying a black one-strap bag across his chest, which contained a black Glock 19 9mm pistol with a clear extended magazine, a black Glock magazine, and 50 nine-millimetre cartridges. The weapon had been modified with an invisi-switch plate, converting it into a fully automatic firearm, commonly referred to as a “Chip Glock.”
According to police, Grant told them he had found the weapon on the school grounds. He does not possess a firearm licence or permit.
Authorities say Grant is a suspect in multiple major crimes, including a triple murder in 2022 in Morgan Lane, and the May 16, 2024 killing of Oshane ‘Badz’ Barclay on Rilla Avenue, Kingston 8. He is known to frequent communities such as August Town and Kingston Central.
Acting Superintendent Randy Sweeney, commander of the St Andrew North police division, praised the arrest as a significant breakthrough. “He is a suspect in a triple murder case and shooting incident. Several operations were conducted to find him,” Sweeney said. “We are encouraging suspects, wanted individuals, and persons of interest to surrender themselves peacefully.”
The police continue their crackdown on gang violence in the area and are urging residents to report criminal activity by contacting Crime Stop at 311 or the Constant Spring Police at 924-1421.
Still wanted by the St Andrew North police are Emar ‘Bully Beef’ Grinmam, Andre ‘Bigga’ Lewis, and Oshane Blackwood.
