Kingston, Jamaica — The local media fraternity is mourning the loss of veteran broadcaster Daniel Thompson, a long-standing voice in Jamaican radio, whose passing has left colleagues and listeners reflecting on his decades of service.
Thompson, who spent approximately 28 years at Radio Jamaica, built a reputation as a reliable and engaging presenter. Over the course of his career, he worked across multiple time slots, contributing to news delivery and talk programmes that reached audiences islandwide.
He was widely known for his role on the station’s popular call-in programme Hotline, where he interacted with the public on a range of national issues. Thompson also co-hosted the “X and Y” feature alongside Emily Shields, further cementing his place as a familiar voice in Jamaican households.
Reports indicate that Thompson died on April 30 after suffering a heart attack.
Throughout his career, he earned respect for his professionalism and versatility, transitioning seamlessly between newsreading and hosting duties. His contributions to broadcasting spanned nearly three decades, making him a recognizable and trusted figure in the industry.
