Authorities in Kingston have charged two men following a series of coordinated anti-narcotics operations that uncovered a significant quantity of cocaine and seized millions of dollars in assets over a three-day period.
The operations, carried out between April 23 and April 25 in St Andrew and at the Norman Manley International Airport, resulted in the confiscation of more than 130 pounds of cocaine.
One of the accused, Dwayne Barnett, an electrician from Norbrook Crescent, now faces charges of possession and trafficking of ganja, as well as using premises for the storage of the drug.
According to reports, around 3:00 p.m. on April 23, members of the Firearm and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) Special Response Unit executed a search warrant at a residential complex. During the operation, law enforcement officers uncovered 55 parcels of cocaine weighing approximately 60.2 kilograms.
A follow-up search at Barnett’s home led to the additional seizure of roughly five pounds of ganja.
Investigators also confiscated significant assets linked to the suspects, including more than J$1 million and over US$1,000 in cash. Four high-end motor vehicles were taken into custody. Additionally, a licensed firearm holder at the location was found with a 9mm Glock pistol, two magazines, and 34 rounds of ammunition, all of which were seized.
Other individuals detained during the operation, including a woman from the Dominican Republic, were questioned and later released. Authorities have indicated that investigations into the origin and distribution of the seized cocaine remain ongoing.
Barnett is expected to appear before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on May 27 as the case proceeds.
