Law enforcement officials are preparing to file charges against a man currently in custody in connection with the killing of 42-year-old Police Corporal Sylvester Reid.
The development follows the discovery of Reid’s body late Tuesday night along the Parnassus main road in York Town. Investigators report that the suspect, said to be the officer’s roommate, reportedly directed a police team to the location around 11:30 p.m.
Authorities found the body in bushes near a dirt track. Reid was dressed in yellow shorts, and the remains showed advanced decomposition as well as what appeared to be burn injuries.
According to police, the corporal had been missing since April 15. Investigators believe he may have been fatally stabbed before his body was transported to the site where it was later discovered.
Further evidence linked to the case was uncovered in multiple locations. Reid’s vehicle was located on April 23 in Old Harbour, with reports indicating the presence of blood inside. Additional bloodstains were also reportedly found at his residence in Evans Heights.
Police say investigations are ongoing as they work to finalize charges and determine the full circumstances surrounding the officer’s death.
