NEW YORK, USA — The high-profile criminal trial of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs appears to be nearing its dramatic conclusion, as federal prosecutors rested their case Tuesday afternoon after six weeks of testimony.
The Southern District of New York (SNDY) confirmed that 34 witnesses, including pop star Cassie Ventura and rapper Kid Cudi, had taken the stand. The prosecution signaled it had finished presenting its evidence just before the jury broke for lunch.
With jurors dismissed from the courtroom, Diddy’s legal team immediately launched a motion to dismiss all five charges, arguing that the government “failed to prove its case” and that the matter should not proceed to jury deliberation.
“The charges should be thrown out before they ever reach the jury,” argued one of Diddy’s lead attorneys.
The 54-year-old Bad Boy Records founder has pleaded not guilty to a total of five federal charges, including:
-
Racketeering conspiracy
-
Two counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion
-
Two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution
Prosecutors allege that Diddy operated a criminal network spanning years, using his influence and connections to exploit victims through coercion and manipulation. However, Diddy’s attorneys contend that the evidence presented by the prosecution lacks credibility and legal merit.
In a bold strategic move, the defense has chosen not to call any witnesses, meaning Diddy will not testify in his own defense — a decision often used to avoid subjecting defendants to cross-examination.
The courtroom was packed with media and observers Tuesday, and while no cameras are permitted inside, high-profile attendees and testimony have kept public attention locked on the unfolding legal battle.
If the motion to dismiss is denied, jury deliberations could begin by the end of the week.
