A St Mary man has been charged in connection with the gruesome death of a 64-year-old labourer whose decomposing body was discovered near his home in Donnington, Gayle.
Dwight Campbell, 22, otherwise called “Cardo,” of Cox Piece, has been charged with murder and several other offences following the discovery of Clifton Campbell’s body.
Police said Clifton was last seen alive at his home around 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 31.
After relatives became concerned when they could not see or hear from him, one relative went to the property to check on him.
The relative reportedly made the grim discovery, finding Clifton’s body lying face down along a pathway leading to the house.
Police said the body was decomposing and had burn marks, while Clifton appeared to have suffered chop wounds to his neck, back and right wrist. His wrist was reportedly almost severed.
As the investigation unfolded, Campbell was identified as a suspect and was later apprehended during a targeted operation at his home.
He was subsequently charged with murder, robbery with aggravation, doing an act to pervert the course of justice, attempting to prevent the lawful burial of a corpse, attempting to dispose of a corpse, and misprision of felony.
