The diplomatic community is mourning the passing of Jesús Silva, former Spanish Ambassador to Jamaica, who reportedly died on October 5, 2025, after suffering a stroke.
Silva, who was born in Seville in 1962, served as Spain’s ambassador to Jamaica from 2005 to 2010, where he played a key role in strengthening bilateral relations between Kingston and Madrid.
At the time of his passing, Silva was serving as Consul General in Guadalajara, Mexico, after completing a term as Consul in Cape Town, South Africa.
The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed his death in an official statement, remembering Silva as a distinguished diplomat who represented his country with “dedication, professionalism, and deep commitment to international cooperation.”
Silva also made global headlines during his tenure as Spain’s Ambassador to Venezuela, where he notably offered refuge to opposition leader Leopoldo López at the Spanish Embassy in Caracas.
His passing has been met with tributes from colleagues and government officials across several countries, including Jamaica, where he is remembered for his warmth, professionalism, and efforts to strengthen Spanish-Caribbean relations.
May he rest in peace.
