MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — Palace Amusement Company Limited has confirmed that its Multiplex cinema in Montego Bay will not reopen, months after the facility sustained severe damage during Category 5 Hurricane Melissa in October 2025.
The cinema has remained closed since the storm, which left the building with extensive mould-related deterioration. According to the company, the level of destruction made restoration efforts unfeasible.
In a statement shared with the public, Palace said the decision followed prolonged evaluation and internal discussions. The company noted that despite initial hopes of recovery, the condition of the property ultimately ruled out any possibility of reopening.
Management reflected on the emotional impact of the closure, describing the Montego Bay location as a significant part of its operations and history. The theatre, which opened in December 2001, served western Jamaica for over two decades.
Palace also acknowledged the support it received from patrons throughout the years, expressing appreciation for the loyalty shown by moviegoers in Montego Bay and surrounding communities.
The closure marks the end of a longstanding entertainment hub in the city, as the company shifts focus to its remaining operations.
