MANCHESTER, Jamaica – A pre-dawn operation in Kingsland, Manchester, resulted in the fatal shooting of a man during an alleged confrontation with the police on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified by the police as Orlando Clive Waite, also known as ‘Garth’, a resident of the Kingsland community.
According to police reports, the incident occurred sometime between 2:00 am and 3:00 am when a police team conducted an operation at a premises in Kingsland. Authorities stated that Waite, who was reportedly armed, confronted the officers.
In the ensuing confrontation, the police opened fire, and Waite was struck. He was subsequently transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police have confirmed that a firearm was seized at the scene.
As is standard procedure in police-involved shootings, the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
