TOLEDO, Ohio – A missing 13-year-old girl, Keimani Latigue, has been found dead in an abandoned house in Toledo, and police are now searching for her father, Darnell Jones, 33, who is the prime suspect in her murder.
Latigue’s disappearance last week gripped the city. After she was reported missing on March 18th, Toledo police issued a warrant for Jones’s arrest on suspicion of abduction. Following the discovery of Latigue’s body, Jones is now wanted on suspicion of murder.
Toledo Police Department investigators found Latigue dead early Monday inside a burned-out house on Miami Street. Police Lt. Daniel Gerken confirmed in a statement that a manhunt is underway to locate and arrest Jones. The Toledo Police Department stated that Latigue was “found suffering from apparent fatal injuries.”
The Lucas County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the cause of death.
According to reports, Latigue’s father became a suspect after providing “inconsistent statements” to investigators and was the last known person to have been seen with her before she disappeared.
The discovery of Latigue’s body has prompted grief and mourning in the community. Family members had previously organized search parties to look for her. Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz expressed the deep sorrow felt by the community over this tragic event.
