Hurricane Isaias strengthened into a Category 3 storm Friday, packing winds of 120 mph as it approached the US Gulf Coast.
The National Hurricane Center forecast landfall late Friday near the Alabama-Florida border, warning of life-threatening storm surges and destructive winds.
Dangerous conditions were expected across the Florida Panhandle, southern Alabama and southern Mississippi.
Isaias was forecast to weaken rapidly after landfall as it moved inland.
