NASSAU, Bahamas — Righteous Teacher, born Demarco Grant on September 19, 1975, in New Providence, Bahamas, is a reggae recording artist whose music is deeply rooted in faith, inspiration, and positive social messages.
Raised near East Street and Deveaux Street in Nassau, Grant attended C.W. Sawyer Primary School and later A.F. Adderley Senior High School, where his passion for music first began to take shape. As a student, he became known for creating rhythms on classroom desks and freestyling with friends, often attracting large crowds in school hallways.
Inspired by Jamaican dancehall legends including Buju Banton, Papa San, and Shabba Ranks, Grant developed a strong love for music from an early age. However, pursuing a professional music career in The Bahamas at the time appeared uncertain, leading him down a different path.

Overcoming Adversity
Growing up amid challenging circumstances, Grant became involved in gang activity while seeking identity and recognition on the streets. Despite these struggles, his grandmother, Ruby Lightfoot, remained a strong guiding force in his life, teaching him the importance of hard work, perseverance, and determination.
Those lessons, combined with a growing sense of faith and purpose, eventually helped redirect his life toward a more positive future.
Grant later built a career in public service as a Bahamian Immigration Officer before relocating to Florida in 2009, where he lived for more than a decade. During his time in the United States, he immersed himself in the American hip-hop scene, connecting with producers and artists across the industry.
Launching a Music Career
In March 2020, Grant decided to revisit his lifelong passion for music and began recording professionally.
His debut single, Favor Bounce, was released on July 5, 2020, followed by Favor Bounce Da Revolution on November 13, 2020.
The latter achieved notable chart success, reaching:
- No. 35 on the Billboard Top 40 Mainstream Indicator Chart
- No. 37 on the Mainstream Indicator Media Base Chart
- No. 34 on the U.S. Retail Radio Chart
The success marked a significant turning point in his career and reinforced his belief that mainstream recognition was achievable. It also led to a partnership with his first manager, Charvae Di Don of Concore Entertainment, who played a key role in helping expand his reach within the music industry.
Building Industry Connections
Throughout his career, Grant has collaborated with several notable artists and producers.
Among them is Atlanta-based producer Mike Fidelis, known for his work with artists such as DaBaby and Lil Boosie. In April 2024, Grant released Thank God For My Haters featuring rapper Benzino.
Additional collaborations include:
- Trapped In The Mind featuring Miami rapper Mike Smiff of Slip-N-Slide Records
- Power Moves with independent Miami rapper Stitches
- Projects involving PBE Pluto
These collaborations created opportunities for performances across Florida and Georgia, helping him establish a growing audience throughout the United States.
Returning to His Roots
Despite his success in hip-hop, Grant ultimately realized that reggae remained his true passion.
After returning to The Bahamas, he shifted his focus toward creating reggae, dancehall, and afrobeat music that better reflected his identity and artistic vision.
Recording primarily through Rock Sound Records in The Bahamas, Grant released Bust A Praise under his own imprint, DKG Music Group, on March 13, 2026.
He also developed a strong partnership with Jamaican producer Crawba Genius, who produced Give Thanks, a collaboration featuring internationally acclaimed dancehall artist Busy Signal.
The single achieved significant success, climbing to No. 3 on the U.S. iTunes Reggae Chart and further establishing Grant as an emerging voice in Caribbean music.
Looking Ahead
Grant hopes to collaborate with internationally recognized Jamaican producers including Rvssian, Di Genius, and Notnice. While remaining proudly independent, he remains open to opportunities with major record labels if the partnership aligns with his vision and goals.
Performing under the name Righteous Teacher, Grant intentionally chose the moniker to reflect his mission of addressing life’s challenges through a positive, faith-based perspective.
His music aims to uplift, inspire, educate, and motivate listeners while encouraging personal growth, resilience, and spiritual strength.
Today, Righteous Teacher continues building his audience both locally and internationally, pursuing global success while remaining committed to creating music that leaves a lasting impact. Through every song, he seeks to spread positivity, inspire change, and remind listeners that faith and purpose can transform even the most difficult journeys into stories of redemption and hope.
