Montego Bay, St James (McKoy’s News) — The sweet sounds of reggae and love filled Catherine Hall on Saturday night as singer Tarrus Riley made a triumphant return to the Sumfest stage after almost a decade, leaving fans in tears with his moving tribute to reggae legends.
Riley, son of the late great Jimmy Riley, stepped out shortly after 2:00 AM during Festival Night 2 of Reggae Sumfest 2025 and wasted no time delivering hit after hit. The singer performed crowd favorites like She’s Royal, Gimme Likkle One Drop, and Sorry Is a Sorry Word, as patrons swayed and sang along.
But the most touching moment of the night came when Riley paused his set to honor the memory of his father and fellow reggae icon Cocoa Tea, who both passed away in recent years.
“This one is for Daddy Jimmy, Cocoa Tea, and all the greats who paved the way fi we,” Riley told the massive crowd before performing Stay With You and an emotional rendition of his father’s classic Love and Devotion.
Patrons cheered, waved their flags, and even lit candles during the tribute, with some visibly wiping away tears.
Riley, who grew up watching his father perform at Sumfest, called it a “full circle moment” and thanked the organizers for allowing him to pay homage to the legends who inspired him.
The festival, which wrapped up Sunday morning, also featured fiery performances from Protoje, Lila Iké, and a surprise guest appearance by dancehall star Popcaan.
Reggae Sumfest 2025 ran from July 13–19 and drew thousands of locals and tourists to Montego Bay. Organizers hailed Riley’s set as one of the most memorable of the week, describing it as “a unity moment the world needed to see.”
