A fatal workplace accident has cast a shadow over preparations for Todo Mundo no Rio concert event, where Shakira is scheduled to perform in the coming days.
Authorities in Rio de Janeiro reported that a construction worker died after being critically injured while assisting with stage assembly for the upcoming show. The incident occurred just days before the highly anticipated performance at Copacabana Beach.
According to event organizers and the state fire brigade, the worker sustained severe injuries to his lower body during an accident involving lifting equipment. Coworkers reportedly removed him from the machinery before emergency responders arrived on the scene.
First responders administered initial treatment at the site before transporting the injured man to a hospital. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries.
A witness, identified as Antonio Marcos Ferreira dos Santos, stated that part of the structure being assembled collapsed, trapping the worker underneath.
Organizers have not announced any changes to the event schedule. At this time, the concert remains set to proceed as planned, with Shakira expected to headline the free public performance.
