A man who allegedly tried to steal a motorcycle on Grove Road in St Andrew was shot by the bike’s licensed owner on Wednesday morning, police confirmed.
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m., when the injured man reportedly attempted to take the motorcycle. During the attempted theft, the owner — who is licensed to carry a firearm — discharged his weapon, striking the would-be robber.
The injured suspect was later taken to hospital for treatment, but authorities have not released details on his current condition.
Police officers remain on the scene as the St Andrew Central Criminal Investigations Branch continues its probe into the incident.
In related crime statistics, the Jamaica Constabulary Force reported on Sunday that robberies across the island have risen by 10 per cent compared to the same period last year, with 23 incidents recorded up to January 17.
