Kingston, Jamaica: The Court Administration Division (CAD) has announced the suspension of court matters scheduled for Thursday at the Spanish Town and Old Harbour courts in St. Catherine.
This decision follows the declaration of a State of Public Emergency (SOE) in St. Catherine South due to a recent surge in violent crime. The SOE was implemented in the wake of the fatal shooting of a reputed gang leader, Othneil Lobban, also known as “Thickman,” in St. Andrew on Wednesday night.
“The safety of court users, staff, and stakeholders remains a top priority,” stated the CAD in a release. “CAD is committed to ensuring the continued administration of justice while taking necessary precautions to safeguard all individuals within the affected areas.”
Individuals with matters scheduled for the affected courts are advised to contact the relevant court or the CAD at 876-586-9783 for further information and rescheduled dates.
The CAD expressed its appreciation for the public’s understanding and cooperation during this period.
