ST. JAMES, Jamaica — Prime Minister Andrew Holness says Jamaica’s strengthened security cooperation with the United States is yielding positive results, pointing to several high-profile arrests as evidence of the partnership’s effectiveness.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 11th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference in St. James on Tuesday, Holness said the government has intensified collaboration with U.S. law enforcement and security agencies as part of efforts to combat transnational crime and improve public safety.
The prime minister emphasized that Jamaica remains committed to ensuring that criminals operating across the region do not use the island as a refuge from law enforcement authorities.
“We are seeing the benefits of enhanced cooperation with our international partners,” Holness indicated, noting that recent arrests demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence sharing and coordinated security operations.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining strong security measures and regional partnerships aimed at disrupting criminal networks and protecting Jamaica’s borders.
The Jamaica Diaspora Conference, which brings together Jamaicans living overseas and local stakeholders, continues this week with discussions focused on national development, investment, and strengthening ties between Jamaica and its global diaspora.
