Authorities have begun a major investigation following the abduction of a 17-year-old student in Cross Roads, St Andrew, on Tuesday afternoon.
Detectives from the St Andrew North and St Andrew Central police divisions are jointly leading the probe. Law enforcement officials have classified the matter as a serious criminal incident and say it is receiving priority attention.
According to police reports, the teenager—who attends a Corporate Area high school—entered a taxi shortly before 5:00 p.m. She was reportedly traveling to extra lessons in Half-Way-Tree when the incident occurred.
Investigators say that shortly after the student boarded the taxi, a woman seated in the rear of the vehicle allegedly pulled a bag over the teen’s head. The girl reportedly lost consciousness soon afterward.
More than three hours later, around 8:40 p.m., the teenager was reportedly forced out of the vehicle along Parkes Road.
Residents in the area discovered the student barefoot and visibly shaken. Community members attempted to determine what had happened before the incident was formally reported to the police.
During a subsequent update, police confirmed that the teenager received medical treatment at a hospital and was discharged late Wednesday.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the abduction remain ongoing.
