Ocho Rios High Teen Charged in Fatal Attack on Schoolmate

ST ANN, Jamaica — A 17-year-old student of Ocho Rios High School has been charged with the murder of 16-year-old Devonie Shearer following a deadly incident at the school earlier this month.

According to reports from the St Ann’s Bay Police, the altercation occurred about 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4. Investigators say the accused allegedly used a metal chair to strike Shearer in the head, leaving him seriously injured and unconscious.

Shearer was rushed to hospital, where he later passed away while receiving medical treatment.

Police confirmed that the accused teen was handed over to authorities later that same day. He was formally charged on Thursday, March 5, in the presence of his parent after eyewitness accounts reportedly linked him to the incident.
