WESTMINSTER, Colo.: Authorities say a 37-year-old woman fatally stabbed her mother in a shocking incident that left the victim hidden under blankets in their Westminster home.
On Sept. 28, officers from the Westminster Police Department responded to the residence and discovered 64-year-old Kathy Johnson, who showed clear signs of trauma. Police also encountered the victim’s daughter, Sarah Riste, and a child outside the home. Riste’s shirt was reportedly covered in blood, and she allegedly told the child not to speak.
During questioning, Riste reportedly admitted to an argument with her mother before allegedly taking a knife from the kitchen and stabbing her. Authorities believe the child at the scene is Riste’s own, who reportedly said, “Mom stabbed Grandma, Mom is going to jail, Grandma is dead, and now I don’t have anyone.”
On Oct. 2, the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office filed a first-degree murder charge against Riste. She was arrested and booked into the Adams County
