Detectives from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) have intercepted a significant cache of illegal weapons and ammunition at the Kingston Logistics Centre, resulting in one of the most substantial firearm seizures at the port in recent years.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that 28 firearms along with more than 6,000 rounds of ammunition were discovered during the operation. The find prompted the arrest of 36-year-old Odeen Lawrence, a member of the Jamaica Defence Force.
Lawrence has since been charged with conspiracy to traffic prohibited weapons and unauthorised possession of ammunition.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force reports that the investigation is far from complete. Authorities say additional arrests and charges are anticipated as police intensify efforts to disrupt and dismantle organised gun-smuggling networks operating through the nation’s ports.
