Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz unleashed a historic goal-fest on Saturday, opening their Concacaf Women’s Qualifiers with a record-shattering 18–0 demolition of Dominica at the Darren Sammy Cricket Stadium in St Lucia.
The massive victory rockets Jamaica to the top of Group B on goal difference.
Superstars Khadija “Bunny” Shaw, Kalyssa Van Zanten, and Jody Brown all registered hat tricks, driving the Girlz past their previous World Cup Qualifying best — a 14–0 rout of St Lucia in 2014, followed by a 13–0 blowout of Guadeloupe four years later.
In the group’s opening matchup on Thursday, Nicaragua blanked Antigua and Barbuda 4–0 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in St John’s.
When the Reggae Girlz took the field on Saturday, they wasted no time. Jamaica struck early and often, racing to a 4–0 lead inside the first 10 minutes, then storming into halftime up 10–0, with both Shaw and Van Zanten completing their hat tricks before the break.
With her first-half treble, Bunny Shaw lifted her national scoring record to an incredible 60 goals.
The second half was no different, as Jamaica continued their relentless assault. Deneisha Blackwood, along with substitutes Natasha Thomas and Shaneil Buckley, each scored braces, sealing the Girlz’ biggest ever qualifying win.
The Reggae Girlz now stand firmly in control of Group B as the qualifiers continue.
