Trelawny, Jamaica (Mckoy’s News) – Members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) and the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) are now on the scene of an overturned tanker trailer in Carey Park, Trelawny. The vehicle, which was transporting petrol, is lying on its side and blocking the main roadway, forcing traffic to be rerouted.
Motorists travelling from Duncans are being diverted through Rock via Clarks Town, while drivers heading from the opposite direction are advised to take the same detour.
Firefighters from neighbouring parishes, including St Ann and St James, have been called in to support their Trelawny colleagues as crews work to stabilise the situation.
Superintendent Roland Walters, head of the Trelawny Division of the JFB, told Mckoy’s News that his team received the call shortly after 8:00 am Friday.
“At about 8:12 am we were alerted to an overturned tanker trailer transporting butane in the Carey Park area. On arrival, we found it on its side in the middle of the road,” Walters explained.
“We immediately began cooling the container until a maintenance team from IGL arrived. The area has been evacuated and we are monitoring operations closely.”
Walters confirmed that officers from the Trelawny police are also at the location, maintaining order and ensuring that no one enters the restricted zone.
“As we speak, we’re getting great support from St Ann and St James. The scene is stable for now, but we’re urging motorists and residents to stay clear until the all-clear is given,” he added.
The tanker is expected to be removed later today once specialists determine it is safe to move the load. Authorities continue to caution members of the public to avoid the area.
