Police Nab 21 Haitians in Kensington, Portland

Police in Portland have confirmed that 21 Haitians were captured on Monday, September 22, 2025, after arriving illegally on Jamaican shores.

Reports are that around 1:00 p.m., an 18-foot multi-coloured canoe carrying 40 Haitians came ashore at Kensington, Portland. The group quickly dispersed into nearby communities, but residents alerted the police, who sprang into action.

A swift operation led to the capture of 18 men and three women, while the search continues for the remaining 19 still at large.

This latest incident adds to a growing number of Haitians entering Jamaica illegally by boat, as Haiti remains in deep turmoil due to security breakdowns and political unrest.

Authorities are urging citizens not to harbour the Haitians and to contact the police immediately if they are seen.
