ST MARY, Jamaica – Police in St Mary have scored a significant victory against the illicit drug trade, seizing a large quantity of vegetable matter resembling marijuana and discovering an unlicensed two-acre ganja farm in Annotto Bay.
According to lawmen, the seizure followed an intelligence-driven snap raid on a premises in the area. Officers reportedly stumbled upon the farm as part of the operation.
One individual has been taken into custody, while another is being sought for questioning in connection with the find, investigators said.
Photographs released by the police show officers and service vehicles at the site, where rows of mature plants were uprooted.
Detectives believe that unlicensed cultivation and distribution of ganja continue to bankroll organised criminal networks, fuelling guns-for-drugs trades and other illegal enterprises.
Police say the operation underscores the St Mary Police Division’s commitment to dismantling illegal activities that threaten public safety.
Investigations are ongoing.
