ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Police in Williamsfield District, St Elizabeth, have launched an investigation following the suspected suicide of a constable attached to the Half-Way-Tree Police Station on Wednesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Constable Arnold A. Wilson, who was reportedly found unresponsive at his home shortly after 5:30 p.m.
According to early reports, residents in the area became concerned and alerted the police, who responded promptly and confirmed the tragic incident.
Preliminary information indicates that Constable Wilson had been on leave and was receiving treatment for mental-health–related challenges. Relatives shared that he had been struggling emotionally following the recent passing of his father overseas.
The St Elizabeth Police Division, along with the Chaplaincy Services Branch, has extended grief counselling and support to colleagues and family members affected by the tragedy.
This latest incident has once again brought attention to the mental health pressures faced by members of the security forces, as well as the importance of access to counselling and wellness support.
