ST. ANN, Jamaica — Efforts to improve sanitation and environmental management at Fisherman’s Beach in St. Ann’s Bay have received a boost with the donation of two garbage skips to the fishing community.
The initiative was carried out through a partnership involving stakeholders committed to enhancing waste disposal practices and maintaining a cleaner beachfront environment for fishermen, vendors, residents, and visitors.
The newly donated skips are expected to provide a more efficient system for collecting and managing solid waste at the popular coastal location, helping to reduce litter and promote responsible disposal practices.
Representatives involved in the project emphasized the importance of preserving the area’s natural beauty and protecting nearby marine ecosystems from pollution. They noted that proper waste management plays a critical role in supporting both environmental sustainability and the livelihoods of those who depend on the beach for fishing and commerce.
Community members have welcomed the donation, expressing optimism that the additional waste-management infrastructure will contribute to a cleaner and healthier space for all users of the beach.
The project forms part of broader efforts to strengthen environmental stewardship and encourage cleaner public spaces across communities in St. Ann and throughout Jamaica.
