Jamaica (McKoy’sf News) — President of the People’s National Party (PNP) and Opposition Leader, Mark Golding, has issued an apology after he was caught on a hot mic uttering an expletive during a party meeting on Friday.
Golding addressed the matter on Saturday night, explaining that his remark was born out of frustration with a malfunctioning microphone at a PNP meeting in St Ann South West.
“Last night I was at another function and a pure problem with the microphone and I mutter a little ‘bc’ under my breath. Mi neva mean anybody fi hear it,” Golding said.
The incident comes just days after Golding publicly condemned the use of “dirty bad words” on political platforms, which has become a controversial issue on the campaign trail in recent weeks.
“To anyone who heard it and feel offended, sorry you hear sah, mi neva mean no disrespect. Mi is a humble youth and I would never disrespect Jamaican people,” he added.
The controversy follows a similar incident involving Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) senior member Everald Warmington, who was forced to apologise after an expletive-filled rant urging supporters to vote for Central Westmoreland candidate George Wright “even if dem nuh like him.”
Golding’s apology adds to the ongoing debate about the tone and language being used in Jamaica’s political discourse.
