St Catherine, Jamaica — A man was shot and killed in Ackee Village, St Catherine, on Thursday morning after an alleged armed confrontation with members of a police-military team.
The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Joseph Dixon, also known as ‘Boysie’, from the Ackee Village area of Dam Head.
According to police reports, around 6:15 a.m., a joint police and military unit conducted an intelligence-led operation in the community. The team, equipped with a search warrant, entered a house where Dixon was seen.
Police said Dixon was armed with a handgun, which he reportedly aimed at the officers. In response, the lawmen opened fire, striking him.
When the area was secured, officers reportedly discovered a Smith & Wesson pistol, along with a magazine loaded with seven rounds of .40 calibre ammunition, lying next to Dixon.
He was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched an investigation into the incident.
