Police in Clarendon are searching for a man identified as “Tony” Thompson following a late Sunday night machete attack at a home on Glenmuir Drive in May Pen that left a 46-year-old caregiver dead and her 12-year-old son traumatized.
The deceased has been identified as Jennifer Williamson, a mother of six.
Investigators report that about 10:31 p.m., Williamson was inside a bedroom with her spouse when her 12-year-old son heard her screaming for help. The child reportedly tried to enter the room but was unable to do so because the door was locked.
According to police, the suspect later exited the room armed with a machete and fled the premises. The boy then entered and found his mother suffering from multiple chop wounds to the head, abdomen, and hands. Another occupant of the house assisted with transporting Williamson to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A resident of the usually quiet community said the child ran into the street moments after the incident, visibly shaken and crying out that his mother had been killed. The neighbour described the boy as trembling and frantic while pleading for help.
Relatives and residents have been left in shock by the killing. One family member, speaking after a counselling session with police, described the incident as devastating.
Police confirmed that Thompson, a fruit vendor, is a person of interest in the investigation and is being urged to surrender. Detectives say the probe is ongoing.
