Kingston, Jamaica — Dancehall artiste Lisa Hyper, born Felicia Gooden, is scheduled to appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on February 25 to face an assault charge. However, due to her current hospitalization at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI), she will be unable to attend in person.
“An officer informed us that Lisa’s father can appear on her behalf with a copy of the medical report from UHWI. If the court requires any additional information, they can request it from the hospital,” stated Tasha Gooden, Lisa Hyper’s sister.
The “Soul Cry” singer has been open about her struggles with mental health and has reportedly experienced manic episodes in recent weeks, some of which have unfolded on social media. These episodes culminated in an incident earlier this week at Norman Manley International Airport, where she allegedly assaulted an employee during an argument. The altercation, partially streamed live on her TikTok account, involved the use of abusive language directed at police personnel and airport staff, leading to her arrest.
Lisa Hyper, often referred to as the “First Lady of Gaza,” is a prominent member of Vybz Kartel’s Portmore Empire. She is renowned for tracks such as “Amazing,” “Money Don’t Sleep,” “Sculpture,” and “Nuh Frighten.” Her recent releases include “Soul Cry,” addressing her mental health journey, and “Altitude,” a collaboration with Shawn Storm.
The court will determine the next steps following the submission of her medical report.
