A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly fatally shooting his mother’s boyfriend, who had a domestic violence warrant issued for his arrest on the same day he was killed.
According to Cincinnati Police, officers responded to a shooting on Pasadena Avenue around 12:30 a.m. on February 20. There, they found 30-year-old Levonte Hyde suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Hyde was rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
That same day, homicide detectives arrested Ronez Joyce, 15, and charged him with murder.
Domestic Violence Allegations
Court records show that police had filed an arrest warrant for Hyde earlier that day on a domestic violence charge.
According to WXIX-TV, Hyde had allegedly punched and hit Joyce’s mother while they were driving and called her an expletive. Authorities were reportedly seeking a temporary protective order for the woman before Hyde was killed.
During the incident, Joyce allegedly fired 12 shots at Hyde, killing him.
Juvenile or Adult Court?
Joyce remains in custody as prosecutors determine whether he will be tried as an adult. A court hearing will be scheduled to decide if his case is moved to adult court, where he could face harsher penalties if convicted.
Authorities have not yet released further details on the investigation or what led to the fatal shooting.
