Patients and medical staff at Cornwall Regional Hospital are expected to benefit from a larger Accident and Emergency Department, which Health and Wellness Minister Dr Christopher Tufton says will open to the public shortly.
The new facility at the St James hospital will be twice the size of the original department and is expected to ease severe overcrowding and reduce pressure on frontline healthcare workers.
Speaking at Wednesday’s post-Cabinet press briefing, Tufton said the department would provide much-needed relief for those receiving and delivering care at the Montego Bay-based hospital.
Patients and staff have faced significant challenges during the hospital’s multibillion-dollar renovation project, which began in 2019.
