KINGSTON, xJamaica — Jamaica’s newly appointed Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Claudette Thompson, has taken up the mantle of leadership with a firm pledge to guide the office through a new era of integrity, transparency, and public service.
Thompson officially assumed her post this week, following the retirement of long-serving DPP Paula Llewellyn, who held the position for 16 years.
After completing her first full day in office, Thompson expressed gratitude for the trust and confidence placed in her by the authorities and the strong support shown by colleagues within the justice system. She acknowledged the heavy responsibility of the role and committed herself to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and public duty.
She outlined that her leadership will focus on preserving the integrity and excellence of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), while ensuring that the department continues to serve Jamaicans with diligence and fairness.
According to Thompson, the guiding principle of her tenure will be “service above self”, underscoring her dedication to transparency, open communication, and accountability. She noted that keeping the public informed is a key part of maintaining trust in the justice system.
Thompson also emphasized that her focus remains squarely on duty rather than personal recognition, stating that her role is not about celebrity but about consistent, honest service to the people of Jamaica.
Legal observers have praised Thompson’s appointment, viewing it as a continuation of strong, principled leadership at the ODPP — one that prioritizes justice, fairness, and integrity at every level.
