KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Noel Maitland murder trial resumed in the Home Circuit Court this week, with a former Digicel court process officer taking the stand to detail how he assisted investigators in tracing telephone records linked to the disappearance of social media influencer Donna-Lee Donaldson.
The witness, who was employed to Digicel in July 2022, testified that the police had requested the telecommunications company to provide call data records for several phone numbers believed to be connected to the case.
He explained that, upon reviewing the records, one specific telephone number appeared to have generated all the calls made to the other numbers under investigation. However, he told the court that he did not reach the stage of determining whether that number belonged to Maitland or any other individual.
Earlier in the proceedings, the court had been hearing testimony from a forensic analyst, who was in the middle of cross-examination when the case was adjourned on Monday. That witness is expected to return to the stand later this week.
The former Digicel employee outlined to the court the steps he took when processing the police request, noting that he verified the dates and duration of the requested data before proceeding to extract the records using a computer system available at the company.
He said the extracted data was copied to two compact disks — one serving as the sealed exhibit copy and the other as the working copy.
The witness is expected to continue giving evidence on Wednesday, after which the forensic analyst may be recalled to face further cross-examination from Maitland’s defence team.
Maitland, a police officer and music producer, is on trial for murder and preventing the lawful burial of a corpse in connection with the July 12, 2022 disappearance of his girlfriend, Donna-Lee Donaldson.
Donaldson was last seen at the Chelsea Manor Apartment complex in St Andrew, where Maitland lived. She was reported missing on July 13, 2022.
